DS-160 guide

DS-160 mistakes to catch before you continue

The safest review is not a generic “looks good.” Check that every answer is complete, current, internally consistent and supported by the information you intend to provide. The Department of State instructs applicants to answer DS-160 questions accurately and completely. KuKuApply can flag visible issues, but only you can confirm whether an answer is true for your circumstances.

Five useful checks

  1. 1

    Save the Application ID

Keep the identifier needed to return to an unfinished application.

  2. 2

    Check dates in sequence

Look for impossible or reversed arrival, departure, employment and education dates.

  3. 3

    Review reused information

Previously submitted information may be reused, but the official FAQ says to check that it is still current and accurate.

  4. 4

    Answer applicable required questions

Do not leave a required question unanswered or choose “Does Not Apply” without confirming that it truly does not apply.

  5. 5

    Use the form’s navigation

The official FAQ warns that edits from the review page must be saved using the buttons at the bottom of each page.

What a KuKuApply page check means

A page check can identify missing fields, visible conflicts and uncertainty. It is not a legal review, an eligibility decision, or a guarantee that an application will be accepted or approved.
